Valentine's Day has never really been our thing, I mean, why do you need a particular day to celebrate love? And why does that day have to be celebrated with the same old cliches like red roses and chocolates? (Not that we would ever say no to chocolates, but you know what I mean!) It's lovely to have love and romance in our lives, but we don't need to be told when or how to celebrate it, right?
And if you're single and wishing you weren't, Valentine's Day can be genuinely grim. Which is why we are big fans of Galentine's Day!
What's Galentine's Day? You may well ask, well it's celebrated on February 13th and was a term coined by the wonderful Leslie Knope, of one of our favourite shows, Parks and Recreation.
“What’s Galentine’s Day? It’s only the best day of the year,” Knope says during the 16th episode of the show’s second series. “Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”
We love the sentiment, but we don't think it needs to be limited to just ladies. Whatever your gender, why not take it as an excuse to celebrate the wonderful friends in your life. Maybe we should rename it 'Palentine's'?!
Lockdown Galentine's ideas
1. Netflix watch party - so you might not be able to actually get together, but why not pick a favourite film (preferably one that you've watched so many times that you know the script inside out!) and watch together from your own homes. Add cocktails and a takeaway to really set the vibe!
2. Send a little video. We all miss our pals so much, but money is tight for many at the moment so gifting can be a bit out of our budgets - why not record a little video message for a friend and send to remind them that you are thinking of them. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but nothing will brighten up someone's day more than knowing someone special is thinking of them!
3. Enter our Galentine's giveaway! That's right, we're having a giveaway over on Instagram where you could win a prize for yourself and a bestie, check it out on our Instagram, our account is @minimummouse
